Curlew Cottage is an old stone croft house, probably built in the 1890s, which has been carefully restored. The house is at the bottom of a short private drive and there is parking for two cars beside the house. As the house, although fenced, is on a working croft with sheep, we regret that dogs cannot be brought. We must ask you to keep gates shut.
There is Total Control central heating throughout. Downstairs, there is a sitting room with a colour TV, a bathroom with heated towel rail, a twin bedroom and a fitted kitchen with fridge, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, oven and ceramic hob. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double and one twin and a shower room with wc. A cot is available on request. All beds have duvets; duvet covers and all bed linen is provided. Towels are provided but please bring your own beach towels.
The cottage has views across Loch Gairloch and to the Torridon Hills. The sandy beach at Opinan is about half a mile away and the beaches at Red Point are about 3 miles further on. The village of Gairloch, with shops, an award-winning museum, a nine-hole golf course and a sweeping expanse of sand is about 9 miles away and the famous gardens at Inverewe a further 5 miles.
Seals, otters and three species of diver can be seen regularly, pine martens very occasionally and there have been several sightings of sea eagles.
You can fish off the rocks at Port Henderson and sea fishing trips are available in Gairloch. Loch fishing may also be arranged there.
There are coastal walks starting from here and short car journeys take you to other walks, both along the coast and inland to the hills.
Often, there are superb sunsets with the sun sinking behind the islands - you might even see the ‘green flash’.
